OUR STORY
The Matric Ball was born out of one simple idea: our youth deserve more.
After 12 years of hard work, South African matriculants often face farewells that don’t fully honour their journey.
We wanted to change that — to create a night that truly celebrates their achievements and potential.

The journey began in early 2023, when Santiago Andrew, a young South African, first conceived the idea of a Matric celebration that truly uplifts and celebrates students. After nearly two years of planning, overcoming challenges, and rallying support, the inaugural Matric Ball was held on the 21st September 2024 at The Leonardo Hotel, Sandton, the tallest building in Sub-Saharan Africa. The event was a landmark success, featuring luxury cars, high-profile guests, and an unforgettable atmosphere of pride and excellence.

More than just an event, The Matric Ball is a celebration of legacy, identity, and African excellence, designed by youth, for youth. It’s a space where every matriculant feels valued, celebrated, and empowered to step boldly into their future. It’s no longer just a matric dance; it’s a platform for our youth to shine. No matter your background, challenges, or upbringing, The Matric Ball is the place to tell your story, where voices once unheard finally find a stage.

Santiago Andrew is the visionary behind The Matric Ball, an event born from a bold idea: that South African youth deserve more than an ordinary farewell after 12 years of hard work.

In 2023, at just 16 years old, Santiago began building what would become a national platform to honour, elevate, and celebrate matriculants across the country. What started as a frustration with the underwhelming send-offs offered to learners quickly turned into a mission to create something world-class, culturally relevant, and deeply meaningful.

With no blueprint, no big team, and no corporate backing, Santiago spent two years shaping The Matric Ball into a night of excellence: luxury venues, red carpets, media coverage, and most importantly, a space for young people to feel seen, valued, and empowered.

Now an annual celebration, the Matric Ball represents more than a glamorous event. It reflects Santiago’s commitment to creating real change, telling real stories, and offering real recognition to the youth of South Africa.
As the founder, Santiago continues to lead with the same passion that sparked the movement, always keeping the focus on the next generation and the legacy they’re building.
